Common Faults and Solutions for Drive Axles, Transmission Systems and Hydraulic Systems

1. Abnormal Noise Fault of Drive Axle

Fault PhenomenonA 'buzzing' or 'clunking' noise is emitted from the drive axle when the vehicle is driving or operating, and the abnormal noise intensifies as the load increases.
Possible Causes:
  • Excessive wear or tooth surface damage of the final drive gear (Corresponding Part: C0001234 Final Drive Assembly).
  • Damage to the wheel reducer bearing (Corresponding Part: C0009101 Wheel Reducer Bearing Set).
Solutions:
  • Stop the machine and check the drive axle oil level. If the oil is insufficient or deteriorated, first replace it with gear oil that meets Carraro standards.
  • Disassemble and inspect the final drive gear. If there is obvious wear or tooth breakage on the tooth surface, replace the final drive assembly; if the bearing produces abnormal noise, replace the wheel reducer bearing set (You can contact our company to obtain original factory parts, Tel: 18126746466).
  • After assembly, adjust the gear meshing clearance in accordance with the original factory requirements to avoid re-damage.

2. Differential Lock Failure

Fault Phenomenon: When the vehicle is driving on muddy or rough roads, the differential fails to lock, causing single-side wheel slipping and power transmission interruption.

Possible Causes:
  • Wear of the differential locking mechanism (Corresponding Part: C0005678 Differential Locking Mechanism Kit).
  • Malfunction of the locking cylinder or hydraulic valve, which prevents the normal operation of the locking mechanism.
Solutions:
  • First, check the pressure of the hydraulic/pneumatic system to ensure it meets the standard (Carraro equipment usually requires a pressure of 0.6–0.8 MPa).
  • If the pressure is normal, disassemble the differential locking mechanism and replace worn parts such as locking sliders and springs (It is recommended to directly replace the full set of locking mechanism kit; our company has stock available, Email: suno_fr@sunotech.com.cn).
  • Test the locking function after assembly to ensure stable locking under low-speed and high-load working conditions.

II. Common Faults and Solutions for Transmission Systems

1. Drive Shaft Vibration and Abnormal Noise

Fault Phenomenon: Obvious vibration occurs in the drive shaft when the vehicle starts or accelerates, accompanied by a 'buzzing' sound, and the vibration intensifies during high-speed driving.
Possible Causes:
  • Wear of the universal joint or damage to the bearing (Corresponding Part: C0012131 Drive Shaft Universal Joint Assembly).
  • Drive shaft unbalance or loose connecting flange bolts.
Solutions:
  • Check the drive shaft flange bolts; if they are loose, tighten them to the original factory torque (usually 35–45 N·m).
  • Disassemble the universal joint. If needle roller bearing wear or oil seal leakage is found, directly replace the universal joint assembly (Our company provides original Carraro compatible parts, Tel: 18126746466).
  • After replacement, adjust the drive shaft angle to ensure that the axis angle with the drive axle and gearbox does not exceed 3° to avoid secondary vibration.

2. Clutch Slippage

Fault Phenomenon: Insufficient power during vehicle start-up; engine speed increases but vehicle speed rises slowly during acceleration; in severe cases, the clutch disc smokes.
Possible Causes:
  • Wear of the clutch friction disc or oil contamination on the surface (Corresponding Part: C0014151 Clutch Friction Disc Kit).
  • Insufficient elasticity of the clutch pressure plate or jamming of the release bearing.
Solutions:
  • Disassemble the clutch assembly, clean oil contamination on the surface of the pressure plate and flywheel, and check the wear degree of the friction disc. If the wear amount exceeds 1.5 mm, replace the friction disc kit (You can consult the part delivery time via Email: suno_fr@sunotech.com.cn).
  • Check the release bearing; if there is abnormal noise during rotation, replace it simultaneously to avoid clutch incomplete disengagement caused by jamming.
  • After assembly, adjust the clutch pedal free travel (usually 15–20 mm), and test the start-up and gear shifting functions to ensure no slippage occurs.

III. Common Faults and Solutions for Hydraulic Systems

1. Hydraulic Pump Oil Leakage

Fault Phenomenon: Oil leakage occurs at the connection between the hydraulic pump housing and end cover, or oil seepage at the shaft end oil seal, resulting in a rapid drop in hydraulic oil level.
Possible Causes:
  • Aging or deformation of the seal (Corresponding Part: C0018191 Hydraulic Pump Seal Kit).
  • Loose hydraulic pump end cover bolts or cracks in the housing.
Solutions:
  • Stop the machine and release the hydraulic system pressure, remove the hydraulic pump end cover, and clean impurities on the sealing surface.
  • Replace the full set of seals (including O-rings, oil seals, and gaskets). It is recommended to use the original factory seal kit (Our company supplies Carraro-specific seals, Tel: 18126746466) to avoid re-leakage caused by mismatched dimensions.
  • Tighten the end cover bolts to the original factory torque (usually 20–25 N·m). After assembly, fill with hydraulic oil and start the machine for testing to ensure no leakage.

2. Slow Action of Hydraulic Cylinder

Fault Phenomenon: The telescopic speed of the lifting or steering cylinder slows down significantly, reducing operation efficiency; in severe cases, the cylinder fails to act normally.
Possible Causes:
  • Wear or scratch of the cylinder piston rod, leading to poor sealing (Corresponding Part: C0020212 Hydraulic Cylinder Piston Rod).
  • Clogged hydraulic oil filter or hydraulic oil viscosity that does not meet the requirements.
